Russian peacekeepers ensure the safety of local residents while harvesting grain crops in the Martuni region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“We ensure the safety of agricultural work near the Martuni settlement of the Martuni region, namely, harvesting wheat near the contact line,” said Alexander Zaitsev, a spokesman for the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

Viticulture, animal husbandry and grain farming prevail among the leading branches of agriculture in the Martuni region, which provide jobs for the local population.

“I would like to thank the peacekeepers for ensuring the safety of agricultural work on the territory of the Martuni region,” – Zagoryan Masis, deputy head of the Martuni region administration.

Also, local residents create mineralized strips in order to prevent grass from falling, to protect fields and settlements from fires.

The fields of local residents, even before the start of the sowing campaign, were checked for explosives and unexploded ordnance by Russian sappers.

In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 Moscow time on November 10, 2020, a complete ceasefire and all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh were announced.

A peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is deployed to control the ceasefire and military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh.
