Correspondents of the regional mass media got acquainted with the process of manufacturing by convicts of IK-5 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Trans-Baikal Territory school furniture for secondary school No. 35 in Chita within the framework of a municipal contract.

The contract price is over forty million rubles. The hands of the convicts will manufacture modular furniture for coworking, equipment for a dressing room, equipment for a catering facility, soft sofas for relaxation, armchairs and ottomans for equipment of a psychologist’s office, student workbenches, laboratory tables and much more in accordance with the specification.

The main goal of the development of production in colonies is to realize the possibility of convicts to work in places of detention, receive wages and compensate for the damage caused by the crime. The conclusion of this contract made it possible to provide additional employment for about 120 convicts.

– This is not the first time that orders of this level have been made in the institution. Convicts acquire professional skills directly in the correctional colony, – said the deputy head of the correctional colony No. 5 in the city of Chita, Vladimir Vorobyov. – In accordance with the necessary requirements, convicts undergo additional training, due to which, it is possible to achieve the quality that has already become the norm, which is appreciated by customers.

The issues of employment of convicts are one of the main factors in the process of re-education and correction of convicts. The acquisition of new labor skills will help convicts to adapt after their release from prison in society.
