The artillerymen of the combined arms army of the Western Military District (ZVO) took part in a tactical exercise to detect enemy artillery using the tactics of “nomadic” mortars.

Under the terms of the exercise, servicemen were deprived of the opportunity to interact with reconnaissance complexes and unmanned aerial vehicles, and enemy units had a significant numerical superiority.

In view of this, the artillerymen installed 2S12 “Sani” mortars in the back of a KamAZ car, prepared a route for covert movement and 5 firing points. They then proceeded to bombard various types of ammunition, forcing the enemy to respond. Military personnel must manage to change the firing position even before the moment when their own projectile hits the target. After several volleys, they were able, with an error of several meters, to determine the location of the mock enemy’s equipment, after which the calculations of the Grad multiple launch rocket systems came into play.

In total, more than 150 artillerymen of the combined arms army of the Western Military District took part in the tactical exercises, about 40 units of weapons, military and special equipment were involved.
