The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) intends to strengthen cooperation with the Russian military department for humanitarian operations. This was stated by ICRC President Peter Maurer at a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Alexander Fomin, which took place on the sidelines of the IX Moscow Conference on International Security.

“First of all, I would like to thank you for the invitation to the conference and for our ongoing relationship, which is getting better over time, between the ICRC and the Russian Federation, in particular with the Ministry of Defense,” said Peter Maurer.

“I would also like to thank for our cooperation on the ground, in particular, in Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh. We have demonstrated in recent years, and especially in recent months in Nagorno-Karabakh, how important it is to have such relations, cooperation on the ground. And we would like to further strengthen it. This will allow humanitarian operations to be carried out, ”added the ICRC president.

The deputy head of the Russian military department called the ICRC one of the most non-politicized organizations.

“Indeed, you are doing a lot of hard work and very necessary for people. The search for the bodies of the missing, the search for hostages, the transfer and release are the most important things that can be done for people, to strengthen peace and establish stability, ”said Alexander Fomin.

The Deputy Defense Minister stressed that this is precisely why the Russian military department is glad that the International Red Cross is once again taking part in the Moscow Conference on International Security.
