Servicemen of the unique engineering assault unit of the Southern Military District (YuVO) showed a master class on overcoming the engineering assault obstacle course for assault and defensive units. The combat training event was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the creation of the famous engineering unit of the Southern Military District – the 11th separate guards engineer Kingisepp Red Banner, the Order of the Alexander Nevsky Brigade.

Engineers of the Southern Military District have worked out the order of actions of the unit for conducting engineering reconnaissance on the ground, as well as in the rear of the conditional enemy, equipped with pillboxes and bunkers. The route, more than 1 km long, was full of fortifications, barriers and obstacles, where the military personnel improved their tactical and physical skills.

Under the cover of the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier, the servicemen of the engineering-assault unit overcame obstacles of varying complexity: minefields of a conventional enemy, Egoza wire spirals, forest heaps, wire fences, gouges and destroyed buildings.

In addition, attack engineers worked out the tasks of making passages in minefields and obstacles, and also fought in the building and captured the headquarters of the mock enemy.

When creating this obstacle course, the experience of training sappers-attack aircraft during the Great Patriotic War and combat modern armed conflicts was taken into account.

In total, about 50 servicemen of the Southern Military District took part in the special tactical exercise, more than 30 units of weapons of military and special equipment were involved.

For reference:

The 11th separate Guards engineering brigade began its glorious combat path in 1941 on the Karelian Isthmus, where on June 26, on the basis of the 6th separate Red Banner motorized pontoon-bridge regiment, its formation was completed and the name of the 41st separate pontoon-bridge battalion was given.

During its participation in the Great Patriotic War, the battalion was awarded the honorary title “Guards” for the displayed valor and courage, and was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner when crossing the Neva River near the Nevskaya Balka. The battalion soldiers fought steadfastly and bravely in continuous battles until the blockade of Leningrad was broken.
