In the mountains of the western Sayan, servicemen of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) unit of the mountain motorized rifle unit of the Central Military District (CVO), stationed in the Tyva Republic, worked out the search for the enemy using the Orlan-10 complex.
They performed training flights at an altitude of about 5 thousand meters, during which, in conditions of limited visibility of mountain ranges and gorges, conducted aerial reconnaissance and found targets. The aircraft took off from a limited area of mountainous terrain. During the entire flight, video information was received at the control center in real time. To detect the covert movement of the enemy, the calculations used a thermal imaging camera mounted on an air reconnaissance aircraft.
The Orlan-10 complex is designed to conduct aerial optical-electronic reconnaissance, issue data for target designation to strike (fire) means, aerial radio reconnaissance, blocking GSM cellular communications, distorting the navigation field of the GPS system. Its payload includes removable modules with a thermal imaging camera, a color video camera on a gyro-stabilized turntable, a photo camera, and relay equipment. The ground control station of the complex is mounted on the chassis of the KamAZ vehicle.
This year, the unit entered service with modernized complexes, which significantly increased the unit’s capabilities for conducting aerial reconnaissance and adjusting the fire of ground units.
