In the garrison House of Officers of the Southern Military District (YuVO) in Vladikavkaz, the opening ceremony of the mobile exhibition of the Russian Geographical Society (RGO) took place.

The exhibition was solemnly opened by the acting commander of the 58th combined-arms army of the Southern Military District, Major General Vyacheslav Gurov.

The event was attended by representatives of the command of the Southern Military District, the leadership of the republic, the Russian Geographical Society, residents of the republic and military personnel.

The exposition contains samples brought from expeditions, artifacts, documents from the rich archive of the Russian Geographical Society, archival materials about outstanding geographers who have made a significant contribution to Russian and world geography, the contribution of the Russian Geographical Society to the study of the European part of Russia, the Urals, Siberia, the Far East and the polar territories.

The exhibition also includes exhibits dedicated to space exploration, memories and unique photographs from family archives. Separate expositions are dedicated to the Volga military flotilla, the BK-31 armored boat, as well as artifacts of the First World War and the Great Patriotic War raised by the specialists of the Center for Underwater Research of the Russian Geographical Society from the bottom of the Gulf of Finland, which have the status of an “Archaeological Heritage Site” (the object is over 100 years old).

In Vladikavkaz, the exhibition will run until July 3 this year. in the garrison officers’ house of the Southern Military District. In the south of Russia, the exposition will also be presented in Kaspiysk. The project is aimed at popularizing the natural, historical and cultural heritage of our country.
