An exhibition dedicated to the work of physicians during the Great Patriotic War has opened in Kirov. The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the faculty of training doctors for the Navy of the Military Medical Academy, lieutenant colonel of the medical service Anton Fisun.

On June 22, on the Day of Memory and Mourning, the exposition opened in the Victory Park of the city of Kirov.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, the Governor of the Kirov region Igor Vasiliev said that during the war, the training of cadets, and the conduct of scientific research, and the defense of doctoral dissertations continued in Kirov. “There are many outstanding graduates of the Academy who completed their studies in Kirov, worked in the Navy for a long time and benefited the Fatherland,” added Igor Vasiliev.

The exhibition project “A Life Dedicated to People” includes more than a hundred archival documents and photographs and tells how, in the extreme conditions of war in the deep rear, Kirov doctors treated and rescued the wounded who came from the front. A month after the start of the war, military hospitals began to be located on the territory of the Kirov region. In total, over 117 evacuation hospitals have been deployed.

Cadets of the Faculty of Training Doctors for the Navy of the Military Medical Academy took an active part in the preparation of the exhibition, for which a large number of historical materials and archival photographs were selected.

According to Anton Fisun, the departure of teachers and cadets to Kirov during the war became one of the most tragic pages in the history of the Military Medical Academy. He told how, during the evacuation on Lake Ladoga, the barge on which cadets of military universities with their families were evacuated from the city overturned. “More than half of those on board the ship died in the cold water. Those who were rescued returned back and waited for the winter evacuation on the ice, ”said the head of the faculty.

A large section of the exhibition is devoted to the Naval Medical Academy, which was evacuated from Leningrad to Kirov in 1941. The exhibition presents unique materials about professors and doctors from Leningrad. People of science – it was they who helped to heal wounded soldiers, provided consultations in difficult cases and trained medical cadets.

In addition, thanks to the Leningraders during the war years, it was possible to prevent a typhus epidemic in the region.

A special place in the exposition was taken by a section that tells about the heroism of medical workers today, who help to fight coronavirus infection and its consequences. For physicians who are today fighting COVID-19 on a daily basis, hospitals have also become a “front line” today.

During the war, about 1,700 people were evacuated from the Naval Medical Academy in Kirov, where the training of naval doctors was organized. After the war, the Naval Medical Academy was included in the separate faculties of the Military Medical Academy. CM. Kirov.
