Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, member of the Union of Artists Lyudmila Kondurova for the Day of the Medical Worker presented the Military Medical Academy with a portrait of the founder of St. Petersburg, Emperor Peter I.

The presentation of the portrait took place in the columned hall of the headquarters of the academy with the participation of the head of the academy, major general of the medical service Yevgeny Kryukov, deputy head of the academy for military-political work, colonel of the medical service Vladimir Lyutov and head of the historical and memorial hall of the academy Konstantin Paliy.

This is not the first gift of an artist to the academy. The collection of the historical and memorial hall contains a portrait of the founder of the Medical and Surgical Academy, Emperor Paul I, painted by Lyudmila Kondurova. Evgeny Kryukov warmly thanked the artist for the valuable gift and promised that the portrait would take its rightful place in the academy.

The history of the Military Medical Academy is forever associated with the names of the great Russian emperors. Peter I, 12 years after the laying of the Peter and Paul Fortress on the banks of the Neva, ordered to build on the Vyborg side “goshpitali” for service people, where, according to the tsar, “every exhausted serviceman will find help and consolation.” In May of this year, three oaks from the Petrovskaya Dubrava were planted on the territory of the academy near the buildings of the former Admiralty and Land hospitals – seedlings grown from the acorns of the oak planted by Emperor Peter I in the Summer Garden. In 1798, the grandson of Peter I, Emperor Paul I, on December 18, signed a decree on the construction of academy buildings for training doctors. On this day, the Academy celebrates its foundation day.
