Field training with artillery reconnaissance units of the combined arms army of the Western Military District started in the city of Kolomna, Moscow Region.

During the training sessions, servicemen perform various tasks to detect a simulated enemy and determine amendments for the operation of artillery at long distances using modern reconnaissance systems.

The gunners search for “enemy” batteries by acoustic, radar, optical and thermal methods, and also use the “Zoo” radar reconnaissance and fire control systems to calculate the trajectory, point of fire and the area of the fall of fire weapons. After finding the coordinates of the “enemy”, artillery reconnaissance specialists used the Aistenok portable radar to detect moving ground vehicles at a distance of up to 15 km and promptly made adjustments to artillery fire.

According to the specifics of the tasks performed, about 50% of the tasks are carried out at night using electronic warfare equipment of a simulated enemy.

In total, about 100 specialists of artillery reconnaissance of the combined-arms army of the Western Military District take part in the training.
