“Young Army members from school 164 have collected historical materials about all the heroes buried at the Bolsheokhtinskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg, posted information on the special website“ Memory Book ”. In addition, they decided to take patronage over three dozen graves of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, ”said Vladimir Kuzmin, a member of the regional headquarters of the St. Petersburg Youth Army.

“For young patriots, this is not a formality,” explained the commander of the detachment, Albert Khadayev. According to him, this is an important mission to preserve the memory. After all, memory can be stored in different ways: collect information, create socially significant projects, put in order military graves. The main thing is the desire to do something, and not sit back.

“Spending a cleanup over the sponsored graves last summer, my comrades in the Yunarmey brotherhood and I discovered that on one of them – Hero of the Soviet Union Mikhail Savelyev – vandals tore off the bas-relief from the monument. I could not keep silent from such disrespect for the front-line soldiers, who at the cost of their lives defended the Motherland, and wrote an article about vandalism in a newspaper. After that, the bas-relief on the monument to the hero was restored, ”said the youth.

This year, pupils of the Youth Army from the 625th and 147th schools of St. Petersburg were also involved in the subbotnik. During the improvement work, the guys saw that the stele on the grave of the Hero of the Soviet Union I.N. Ponomarenko has fallen into disrepair and needs restoration. The guys turned to the cemetery administration for help, and there they met halfway – the monument was repaired.

“Bolsheokhtinskoye cemetery is the largest in St. Petersburg. Its territory covers 70 hectares of land. Many of the graves of the front-line soldiers are in desolation, relatives are either far away, or no one is left from their relatives. But this does not mean that the burials are abandoned as long as there are caring youth soldiers. Now our guys will visit the graves of the heroes and do whatever is required. You can be calm – the memory in the hearts of the young generation will be honored and multiplied, ”stressed Nikita Nagorny, chief of the General Staff of the Youth Army, three-time world champion, eight-time European champion, Olympic silver medalist.

By the way, the project of young patriots from the 164th school to create a Book of Memory dedicated to 30 Heroes of the Soviet Union buried at the Bolsheokhtinskoye cemetery took third place at the Youth All-Russian competition of socially significant projects and patriotic videos dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory “Patriotism in my a heart”. The organizing committee of the All-Russian competition “Basic National Values” awarded the children’s initiative the highest award.

All-Russian youth military-patriotic movement “Yunarmiya” was created in 2016 at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense and with the support of the President of Russia. Now there are more than 800 thousand participants in its ranks. The main task of the movement is patriotic education, as well as the physical, intellectual and social development of young people.
