On July 10, an operational group of the Russian Emergencies Ministry worked in the Chelyabinsk region. On the eve, by the decision of the head of the department, Yevgeny Zinichev, additional forces and means were sent to the region. Two Deputy Ministers, Ilya Denisov and Anatoly Suprunovsky, arrived in the Chelyabinsk Region to coordinate work on extinguishing wildfires.

I. Denisov and the governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler held a meeting of the operational headquarters after flying over the affected area.

“Despite the difficult situation, thanks to the coordinated actions of firefighters, forest services, volunteers and local residents in seven settlements, it was possible to defend 1809 residential buildings from the fire. I want to emphasize that the firefighters worked to the limit in order to minimize the consequences of the fire element. The situation was complicated by hot weather up to +35 degrees and a strong squally wind, which led to the emergence of crown fires, which rapidly spread at a speed of 150 meters per minute. The fire took the character of a fire storm, when several fires were combined into one, and the combustion temperature reached over 700 degrees. At the moment, the situation is stabilized and under control. There is no threat to the population, ”I. Denisov emphasized at an operational meeting at the site of the emergency.

The Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region A. Teksler thanked the firefighters for their selfless struggle against the elements and the protection of settlements and people from fire.

“I saw the work of firefighters yesterday and I was with them at the epicenter of the fire. I can say that the guys did everything possible and impossible to contain the fire and provide the necessary assistance, ”said the governor.

Currently, the area of active combustion is 20 hectares. There are two temporary accommodation centers deployed on the territory of the region, one of which accommodates 12 people.

A group of EMERCOM of Russia, forestry, as well as volunteer firefighters continues to work at the site of the wildfire. The total number of the group is more than 630 people, 142 pieces of equipment and 4 fire trains. Aviation is involved in extinguishing – Il-76, Be-200 aircraft and a Mi-8 helicopter. 38 water discharges were made to the combustion centers, with a total volume of 290 tons.
