Advisor to the Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, head of the Center for Public Relations of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Ilyas Ermolaev and the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Komi Republic Dmitry Konovalov cut the red ribbon and officially launched a new production, created by the joint efforts of the republic’s penal system, the regional government and the federal center.
As part of a working trip to the Komi Republic, Ilyas Ermolaev, Advisor to the Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, head of the Public Relations Center of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, examined SIZO-1 in Syktyvkar. Ilyas Abdusalamovich, accompanied by the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Komi Republic, Dmitry Konovalov, examined the courtroom and discussed with the head of the regional department the conditions for transporting persons in custody, the detention of suspects and accused, as well as their utilities and medical supplies.
The visit continued at IK-42 with special conditions for the economic activity of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Komi Republic in the village of Sindor, Knyazhpogostsky District, where the official opening of a new sewing workshop took place. Ilyas Ermolaev cut the red ribbon in honor of the event together with Dmitry Konovalov and the head of the colony Kamil Aliyev.
– The new production will bring very concrete benefits. Not only material, but also, in fact, deep, human, because a person without labor is a person devoid of the meaning of being on this earth. And it doesn’t matter whether he is convicted or not. It was very pleasant to hear that 24 convicts took part in the construction of the workshop. And then they will work and benefit society, – said Ilyas Abdusalamovich in his speech.
The construction of a production facility with a total area of 1200 square meters started in September 2019 according to a standard project developed by employees of the labor adaptation department of convicts of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Komi Republic. Today the workshop is 100% ready: all engineering communications are connected to the bright, warm and spacious premises, the production is equipped with the most modern sewing equipment and tools.
As Dmitry Konovalov noted at the official opening of the sewing workshop, this is another step in the forward movement of the Federal Penitentiary Service to expand production capacity to fulfill one of the most important tasks of the penal system – to attract convicts to paid work.
– Today is a significant event in correctional colony No. 42 – we are opening a new sewing workshop! It is a modern, well-equipped production facility that has created new jobs. In a two-shift mode of operation, the workshop will allow attracting more than 100 people to work. This means that the convicts will receive a salary and compensate for the damage caused to the state and citizens. And this is our common goal! The workshop was provided with modern sewing equipment with the support of the state. The premises were built using funds from the income-generating activities of the institution. I would like to express my gratitude to the management and employees of IK-42, who made a lot of effort in creating a new production facility! Good luck and prosperity!
Sawmilling is developed in IK-42, and the production volumes of the agricultural area are increasing from year to year. Thanks to this institution, it is possible to systematically improve living conditions in the colony, as well as develop production. So, for the construction of the building of the sewing workshop, IK-42 allocated more than 12 million rubles from funds from income-generating activities. It was possible to equip the new production site with modern equipment thanks to the current state programs. 42 units for the amount of 800 thousand rubles were purchased under the state program “Justice and Law Enforcement in the Komi Republic”, 14 units for the amount of 340 thousand rubles – within the framework of the federal target program “Development of the Penitentiary System”.
Already today, 50 people are employed at the sewing production site. Each convicted person underwent training in the specialty “Seamstress” in the vocational educational institution No. 22 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and an internship under the guidance of employees of the production service of IK-42. The colony has already received a long-term order for the provision of tailoring services. The first batch is estimated at 860 thousand rubles and will be completed by the end of the month.
The representative of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia noted on the positive side the efforts of the regional department in the development of other industries. For the agricultural section of the colony in 2019-2020, under the federal program “Development of the Penitentiary System”, new equipment and attachments were received for harvesting fodder, plowing and cultivating land, planting, harvesting and storing potatoes. The capacities of the existing meat processing plant are also highly appreciated.
As part of the visit to the institution, Ilyas Ermolaev, Advisor to the Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, accompanied by the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Dmitry Konovalov and the head of IK-42 Kamil Aliyev, also got acquainted with the work of the store, medical support for convicts in the penal colony and the organization of meals at the site of the colony-settlement IK-42, examined the construction town for keeping service dogs.
