In the main base of the Northern Fleet, Severomorsk, on Primorskaya Square, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony took place at the monument to the Heroes of the North Sea, defenders of the Soviet Arctic. The ceremony was attended by cadets of naval universities, who are to undergo naval practice on the training ship “Smolny” under the leadership of the head of the Naval Polytechnic Institute of the All-Russian Scientific Center of the Navy, Captain 1st Rank Andrei Klimenko.

Future officers at the foot of the monument greeted the Andreevsky and State flags, which the flag group carried in front of the formation. After a short meeting and a wreath-laying ceremony, the cadets marched in a solemn march, giving military honors to the heroes of the North Sea who died during the Great Patriotic War.

After the ceremony, a prayer service was held for the cadets at the Severomorsk Naval Cathedral of St.Andrew the First-Called, which was conducted by Father Alexander, assistant commander of the Northern Fleet’s missile ship division for work with believing servicemen. He also blessed the trainees for a successful sea voyage, which will begin tomorrow with the departure of the Smolny training ship from Severomorsk.

UK Smolny arrived at the Northern Fleet on Saturday. A change of trainees was held on Sunday. The cadets and the Murmansk Nakhimovites who arrived on the ship went on a summer vacation. The cadets who replaced them, as well as the Nakhimovites from St. Petersburg and Sevastopol, will make the transition by ship from the Barents Sea to the Baltic.
