In preparation for the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021 on the territory of JSC Aviation Research Institute. M.M. Gromov “in the city of Zhukovsky, comprehensive fire-fighting exercises were held to extinguish a simulated fire and liquidate possible emergencies at the facilities of MAKS-2021. The exercises involved the forces and means of the Special Directorate of FPS No. 3 of the EMERCOM of Russia, the Zhukovsky Aviation Rescue Center of the EMERCOM of Russia, the Centrospas detachment of the EMERCOM of Russia, the emergency rescue unit of the airfield, and other services and departments.

According to the legend of the exercises, an emergency situation arose during the preparation of the Yak-40 aircraft for demonstration flights. When the engine was started, the compressor blades were destroyed with damage to the fuel supply systems. Fuel leakage led to the formation of a spill, followed by its ignition under the fuselage and in the aircraft engine. The burning units and parts scattering as a result of the destruction of the engine caused the formation of new foci of ignition in the premises and on the roof of the hangar of the flight test complex, as well as the emergence and development of a landscape fire in the area of the runway. The current situation has become a source of potential threat to the life and health of production employees located in buildings and on the territory of the Ramenskoye airfield. The crew members of the Yak-40 aircraft received injuries of varying severity.

Fire departments immediately moved to the scene. For the search and rescue of victims, protection of neighboring buildings from fire, firefighters created links of the gas and smoke protection service. Special fire and rescue units promptly ensured the evacuation of employees of the enterprises. First aid was provided to the crew of the “emergency” aircraft, after which the victims were taken by helicopter to the hospital. The centers of a simulated landscape fire were eliminated with the involvement of the aviation of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia.

During the preparation of the exercises, the issues of ensuring the fire safety of MAKS-2021, eliminating the consequences of possible emergencies, as well as the interaction of fire and rescue units with other emergency services were worked out.
