In June of this year, more than 60 battalions of motorized rifle, tank and artillery units, as well as over 600 units of various types of troops and special forces, were trained at 28 training grounds of the Southern Military District (YuVO). The commander of the Southern Military District, General of the Army Alexander Dvornikov, reported on the results of the combat training of the troops.

“Particular attention in the training of subunits was paid to reducing the time for performing fire missions in conditions of the active use of counter-battery weapons by the enemy,” General of the Army A. Dvornikov said.

Summing up the results of the training of flight personnel, the commander of the district troops noted that 21 tactical flight exercises were conducted in the first summer month.

“The flight crews practiced exercises to overcome the air defense system at extremely low altitudes, to deliver air strikes against ground and sea targets using air-to-surface missiles,” General of the Army A. Dvornikov said.

More than 50 ships of the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla went out to sea to carry out artillery fire. Also, the tasks of relocation to operational airfields were carried out by the crews of naval aviation, while the combat pilots had about 350 hours of flight time per month.

Army aviation crews in June received practice in supporting the actions of combined arms units, and also improved their flight skills with night vision goggles.

Also, the commander of the Southern Military District emphasized that, according to the results of the competition for the “Best training ground of the Russian Armed Forces,” the Prudboy training ground in the Volgograd region, the motorized rifle formation training ground in the Chechen Republic – the Guards and aviation training ground of the Southern Military District Air Force and Air Defense Association – Kopanskaya won prizes.
