The leadership of TVK-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Tomsk Region and the head of the “Wave of Memory” project of the regional branch of the all-Russian public-state organization “Women of Russia” Svetlana Larionova organized an excursion to “Okolitsa” for the pupils.

The Rural Park is an open-air museum, where Siberian nature, presented on 16 hectares of land, organically combines with the history and amazing works of the participants of the International Competition “Ax Holiday”.

During the excursion, the head of the park, Yuri Ptakhin, told the teenagers about the idea of opening a unique natural corner and showed them themed zones: a Selkup mini-village, a Tatar courtyard, a camp of Russian vigilantes, an Uzbek courtyard, a tent with a Russian stove and a sculptural complex – Baba-Yaga’s house, benches, towers, gazebos, fortresses, sailing ship, military truck and tank.

A special place in the open area was occupied by a small Orthodox chapel. According to Yuri Stanislavovich, it was felled using 17th century construction technologies and opened in 2015. In “Okolitsa” the traditions of different peoples living in the Tomsk region have united, each of which has a separate platform, where, during the big holidays, the national diasporas organize cultural programs and treat guests with national dishes.

Wooden tigers, elks, bears, owls and dragons donated by carpenters, carvers and carpenters from around the world to the organizers of the popular festival have been replaced by live animals from the zoo, a favorite corner of young visitors.

The walk and the meaningful excursion impressed the convicted teenagers who arrived at TVK-2 from different Russian regions. “Acquaintance with unique exhibits reveals to the pupils the originality of their small homeland, helps them know and appreciate the culture, way of life, traditions of the indigenous peoples of Siberia, love and admire the rich nature,” says Nadezhda Logvinova, head of the educational department of TVK-2.
