Within the walls of the Information Historical and Scientific Center – the Military Historical Library of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, on the initiative of the Commander of the Western Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev, an exhibition “To help the regimental priest” was held.

The event was attended by the assistant commanders for work with believing servicemen from formations and military units deployed in the territory of the Western Military District. For acquaintance they were presented with materials from the library fund on the activities of the regimental priests of the tsarist army during the Russo-Japanese and First World Wars.

A welcoming speech was made by the head of the Military Historical Library, Candidate of Historical Sciences Alexander Bukreev, who noted the special importance of the work of priests in the army and thanked those who came to the event. The importance of the event held by the Military Historical Library was emphasized in their speeches by Archimandrite Sophrony and Archpriest George. They paid special attention to the spiritual education of military personnel and advised to find a personal approach to each military man who visited the temple. Professor of the Department of Humanities and Socio-Economic Disciplines of the Military Academy of Communications named after Marshal of the Soviet Union S.M. Budyonny, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Vyacheslav Kotkov devoted his speech to rethinking the experience of working with religious servicemen of the past and applying it in the modern Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition featured books on the role of military priests in the 19th – early 20th centuries, and fundamental research by Dr. V.M. Kotkova. At the end of the action, each participant was presented with electronic versions of the publications presented at the exhibition.
