In June, at the neurosurgery clinic of the S.M. Kirov underwent an operation to remove a brain neurocytoma using intraoperative fluorescence microscopy.
Removal of such a large tumor of the lateral ventricle of the dominant cerebral hemisphere is often associated with a high risk of developing both neurological deficits and general surgical complications in the postoperative period, with the probability of recurrence in about 1 in 5 cases.
In the patient (27 years old), the disease manifested itself as a gradual increase in headache, nausea and loss of appetite. Conservative treatment had no effect, and MRI revealed a large volumetric formation of the left lateral ventricle with signs of massive drainage into the great vessels. After consulting a neurosurgeon, surgical treatment was recommended.
The operation was performed by the Chief Neurosurgeon of the Russian Ministry of Defense – Head of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel of the Medical Service Dmitry Svistov, with the participation of neurosurgeon A.A. Rafaelyan. and anesthesiologist Danilova T.V.
The operation was successful, and a month after the course of conformal radiation therapy, no relapse was found on MRI.
The Clinic of Neurosurgery is equipped with all the necessary equipment that allows the most complete and safe microsurgical removal of brain tumors of the most complex localization.
