On July 13-14, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin took part in the Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which was held online under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan.

In his speech, the Russian representative noted the growing role of the association in multilateral efforts to overcome modern challenges and threats, as well as the rich experience of cooperation between Russia and NAM on the UN platform. On the basis of mutual respect, our countries are promoting close or coinciding approaches to the most important international problems on the agenda of the world Organization. Against the background of the emergence of a multipolar world order, the Bandung Principles of the NAM, formulated in 1955, are becoming more relevant, including adherence to the UN Charter, respect for the equality and sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs and the settlement of disputes by peaceful means.

During the event, it was decided to grant Russia observer status in the NAM.
