On July 17, the Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy turns 105 years old. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, congratulated the naval pilots on this significant date. He noted in his congratulations that “The naval aviation of the Navy today is capable of effectively performing important missions in the airspace of any region of the World Ocean, interacting with groupings of surface ships.”
The Naval Aviation of the Navy entered its second century, actively renewing its composition and combat training. Marine pilots are capable of performing complex missions in all latitudes and climatic conditions of the World Ocean.
Currently, in strict accordance with the schedule, there is an active renewal of all components of the Naval Aviation and equipping it with new models of aviation technology. The process of modernization of aircraft in service with the Naval Aviation of the Navy is being carried out at the same pace, without delays in schedule. Multifunctional aircraft SU-30cm and carrier-based fighters Mig-29k are being supplied to the naval aviation. The modernization of Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft and Ka-27 helicopters is underway, which in turn leads to a noticeable increase in the combat potential of anti-submarine aviation. A large amount of work was carried out to restore the readiness and modernization of the Ka-29 transport and combat helicopters.
The naval aviation began to receive new Be-200 aircraft designed for search, rescue on water, aerial reconnaissance, and also for extinguishing fires. At the moment, one of the Be-200 aircraft with an engineering and technical and flight crew, in accordance with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, is providing assistance in extinguishing fires in the Republic of Turkey.
In the course of planned training, naval aviators constantly practice combat tactics, as well as actions using air duty, working on stationary, but also on moving targets. The tasks of transmitting data to targets at large radii through relaying from the aircraft are constantly being worked out.
The training of naval pilots is being actively improved. In particular, to the point of automatism, the actions of the flight crew for refueling in the air are being practiced. The main task of operational-tactical and anti-submarine aviation, which has the ability to refuel, is to be able to carry it out day and night.
2021 was a special year for naval pilots. Under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, naval aviation for the first time in modern history took part in the Umka-2021 Arctic expedition. During the expedition, the personnel built an ice airfield to receive aircraft, both during the day and at night. Flight crews on MiG-31 aircraft in the North Pole area have worked out the interception of strategic aircraft under the control of the D1LO A-504 aircraft, and also performed for the first time in the air over the North Pole.
The organizational structure and control system of the Naval Aviation is being improved. Aviation regiments were revived. At present, the Air Force and Air Defense Army in the Northern Fleet is fully functioning and fulfilling its tasks; a naval aviation unit of the Navy has been created in the Baltic Fleet and is showing excellent results.
Training of naval pilots is carried out by the specialized department of the Naval Academy. N.G. Kuznetsov, as well as the Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Flight Personnel of the Naval Aviation of the Navy in Yeisk. In order to increase the efficiency of pilot training, training programs and approaches to practical training are constantly updated and improved.
Today, the Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy is capable of performing tasks of any complexity, both at the general naval and interspecific levels from southern to arctic latitudes.
On July 25, naval pilots will show their high professional level in the skies over St. Petersburg and Kronstadt, participating in the jubilee Main Naval Parade.
As you know, the emergence of aviation in Russia became possible thanks to the initiative of military sailors. It was the sailors who were the first to see in aircraft an important means of increasing the power of the navy and put a lot of effort and money into training aviation personnel, acquiring aircraft and organizing domestic aircraft construction.
At the origins of the creation of aviation and the Naval and Military departments, as well as the training system for flight personnel, there was one and the same organization – the Imperially established Special Committee for strengthening the Navy for voluntary donations, in the structure of which the Air Fleet Department was created on February 6, 1910. This was the beginning of the era of formation and development of the Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy.
The first Hero of the Soviet Union, naval pilot Anatoly Vasilyevich Lyapidevsky, the first bombing of Berlin by the mine-torpedo regiment of the Baltic Fleet aviation in the severe and tragic August 1941, the first cosmonaut of the planet earth, naval pilot Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin. Hundreds of thousands of glorious names of sea pilots in strenuous flights over the seas and oceans kept the peaceful sky over the Motherland. This is all the glorious age-old history of naval aviation.
