Today, July 17, on the Day of Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy, the aviators of the Northern Fleet held a memorial meeting in front of the park on Safonov Square in Severomorsk, in front of the bust of the Hero of Russia Major General Timur Apakidze, the first combat pilot who landed a Su-33 fighter on the deck of a heavy aircraft carrier “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov”.

He died exactly 20 years ago on a Su-33 aircraft in the Pskov region during a demonstration flight dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the naval aviation of the Russian Navy. Since then, for the aviators of the Northern Fleet, July 17 has been the day of memory of a comrade-in-arms and mentor.

The rally was attended by the commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet, Lieutenant General Alexander Otroshchenko, officers of the headquarters of the association and the flight personnel of naval fighter regiments, as well as the Head of the Closed Administrative Territorial Administration of Severomorsk, Captain 2nd rank of the reserve Oleg Prasov.

The aviators laid flowers at the monument and honored the memory of the Hero of Russia Timur Apakidze with a minute of silence.

After the ceremony, the Severomorian aviators laid flowers at the bust of the legendary fighter pilot of the Northern Fleet, the first Twice Hero of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War, Lieutenant Colonel Boris Safonov, whose name is the central street of Severomorsk, the settlement where the headquarters of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Northern Fleet and the ship fighter air regiment.
