Today, the pilots of the Baltic Fleet naval aviation are celebrating the 105th anniversary of the creation of the naval aviation of the Russian Navy.

The solemn event was attended by the adviser to the governor of the Sverdlovsk region Vladimir Romanov, the head of the Irbit municipal formation Aleksey Nikiforov, as well as the personnel of the 689th fighter aviation regiment.

Vladimir Romanov and Alexei Nikifirov, together with the Chief of Staff of the 689th Fighter Aviation Regiment, read out a festive order and presented memorable gifts to the personnel of the unit.

The room of military glory of the 689th Guards Fighter Sandomierz Order of Alexander Nevsky Aviation Regiment named after Marshal A. Pokryshkin, created by the Ural Institute of Museum Projects with the assistance of the government of the Sverdlovsk Region, was also opened.

On this day, July 17, 1916, during the First World War, the crews of four seaplanes from the Orlitsa air transport conducted the first group air battle over the Baltic Sea with German pilots, which ended in victory for the Russian aviators.
