The creative team of the House of Officers of the Belogorsk Garrison of the Amur Combined Arms Association of the Eastern Military District (VVO) held a number of events dedicated to the victory of the Russian army under the command of Peter the Great over the Swedes in the Battle of Poltava in 1709.
The event was attended by about 150 servicemen of formations and military units stationed in the Belogorsk garrison. They visited the Museum of the House of Officers, where they could see exhibits dedicated to the Battle of Poltava. At the end of the excursion, viewers became participants in the online review of the book exhibition “Battle of Poltava”.
For reference: July 8 (June 27, old style), 1709, there was a general battle of the Northern War of 1700-1721 – the Battle of Poltava. The Russian army under the command of Peter I defeated the Swedish army of Charles XII.
The Battle of Poltava led to a turning point in the Northern War in favor of Russia. In honor of this victory, the Day of Military Glory of Russia was established, which is celebrated on July 10. The federal law “On Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia” was adopted in 1995. It indicates that July 10 is the Day of the victory of the Russian army under the command of Peter the Great over the Swedes in the Battle of Poltava (1709).
