At the federal military memorial cemetery in the Moscow region, a ceremony was held to unveil a monument dedicated to the honored pilot of Russia, the founder of departmental aviation, Rafail Zakirov. Previously, he served as Head of the Aviation Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. R. Zakirov died after a serious illness on July 18, 2020, at the age of 72.

To the sounds of a military band, the relatives of the honored military pilot, accompanied by a company of the guard of honor, laid flowers at the new monument and honored the memory of the lieutenant general with a minute of silence.

After that, the participant of the event remembered the merits of the lieutenant general and the special operations that were carried out under his command.

“Rafail Shakurovich made a huge contribution to the development of the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s aviation. Thanks to his professionalism, responsible attitude to work and energy, it was possible to do a lot for the development of departmental aviation, ”the Russian Emergencies Ministry noted.

Under the leadership of Rafail Zakirov, the aviation EMERCOM of Russia in 1995-2011. took part in more than 300 rescue and humanitarian operations of an international, Russian and regional nature. In the same period, the Aviation Administration of the Russian Emergencies Ministry developed unique fire extinguishing technologies for the Mi-8, Ka-32 and Mi-26 helicopters using the VSU-5 and VSU-15 spillways, oil spill control using the VOP-3, and technologies for extinguishing large natural and man-made fires using Il-76 aircraft and VAP-2 spillways, which have no analogues in world practice.
