The crews of two Mi-8 ZVO helicopters flew to the Republic of Karelia from one of the military airfields of the Leningrad Region and upon arrival in the emergency area will immediately begin to provide assistance in extinguishing the fires.

The crews will be involved in monitoring the terrain from the air, extinguishing fires with the use of spillways, transferring forest fire service personnel, necessary cargo and equipment to areas covered by the natural disaster.

The used spillway device VSU-5 with a capacity of 15 m Filling with water is carried out by dipping the device into natural and artificial reservoirs with a depth of 1-3 m. The time for full filling is 10-17 sec.
