The crews of the ships of the Black Sea Fleet, performing tasks as part of the permanent formation of the Navy in the Mediterranean Sea, conducted an anti-submarine sabotage defense (PPDO) exercise while parked in an unprotected roadstead.

According to the plan of the exercise, a group of underwater saboteurs of the imaginary enemy, using special means of transportation, performs reconnaissance at the parking place of the ships, followed by laying an explosive device under the waterline of one of the ships.

The task of the ship crews, using the stations for monitoring the underwater situation and the special equipment of the anti-sabotage boat “Grachonok”, is to prevent underwater reconnaissance, detect saboteurs and carry out their capture by groups of swimmers on duty.

As a result of the exercise, underwater saboteurs were discovered and brought aboard the ship.

Also, as part of the exercise, the sailors performed practical firing from the ship on a floating object (imitation of a mine) and preventive grenade throwing from hand grenade launchers, and the personnel of the anti-underwater sabotage detachment examined the underwater parts of the ship hulls for damage detection and laying of explosive devices using underwater surveillance equipment …
