In the unofficial team competition, the Russian national team took second place.

Moscow schoolchildren won three medals at the 62nd International Mathematical Olympiad. Gold medals were awarded to Danil Sibgatullin from School No. 1589 and Aydar Ibragimov from SSCC MSU. Silver was won by Andrey Shevtsov from the Second School Lyceum. Sergei Sobyanincongratulated the schoolchildren on his page on the social network “In contact with”

The Olympiad was held from 14 to 24 July in an online format, and schoolchildren from more than 100 countries took part in it. In total, the Russian national team has six medals: five gold and one silver. Thanks to this result, the country took second place in the unofficial team event. The full results of the national team are published on website Ministry of Education of Russia.

St. Petersburg became the organizer of the Olympiad this year. The competition included two rounds, each of which had three problems. They touched upon different areas of school mathematics: geometry, number theory, algebra and combinatorics. In addition to the competitive part, the program included lectures and online excursions.

The International Mathematical Olympiad has been held since 1959. Each country is represented by a team of no more than six students. The results of the competition are summed up in individual classification, and an unofficial team rating is formed based on the total points of the participants.

Moscow pays close attention to the support and development of mathematics education. The popularization of mathematics is promoted by circles and olympiads, such as the “Mathematical holiday”, the tournament named after M.V. Lomonosov and the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren.

Young Muscovites who are interested in mathematics are also helped by the “Mathematical Vertical” project. It provides children with multipurpose pre-profile training in mathematics and in its related fields, which allows schoolchildren to determine the direction of future education and work earlier and in the future to become highly demanded specialists needed by the city.
