Hot weather is a special reason to be careful when buying meat and plant products. Specialists of the Moscow veterinary service carefully monitor the safety of the products sold. Over the past month, they checked about 1.2 thousand tons of meat and fish at markets and fairs. At the same time, about 0.6 tons of goods were not allowed to be sold.
In summer veterinary sanitary experts recommend paying special attention to the quality of frozen products. If a large amount of ice has formed inside the package, then the product is frozen. That is, at some point there was a temperature drop, and the meat began to thaw, and then it was frozen again. Don’t buy deformed cuts of meat or fish. Such products can be not only tasteless and dry, but also unsafe for health.
When choosing frozen meat or fish, look for ice. If it contains cracks and sagging, this is a sign that the product has been frozen repeatedly. Fresh ice should be transparent, old ice should be yellow.
Also, experts urge you to be careful when buying vegetables and fruits. In hot weather, they deteriorate faster. After the purchase, the products must be put into the refrigerator and the expiration dates must be carefully observed. Perishable fruits include avocados, pears, kiwi, nectarines, peaches, plums and cherries; berries – raspberries, blueberries, blueberries and strawberries; vegetables – broccoli, Brussels sprouts, peas, cucumbers, zucchini and cauliflower.
When buying, try to choose products from a close region, since vegetables and fruits in this case do not make a very long way to the counter. Experts advise to give preference to those fruits that are least peeled of tops, leaves or stalks.
Purchase animal and plant products only at authorized retail locations. If necessary, any buyer can ask the seller for documents confirming the safety of the products.
