The officers of the humanitarian response center and military doctors of the special-purpose medical detachment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, as part of an organized humanitarian-medical action in the regional hospital in the city of Mardakert of Nagorno-Karabakh, gave birth to a local woman from a remote area for the first time.

“For a medical squad, this is the first childbirth and is not often used in military medicine. For such a Caesarean section operation, according to the protocol, the child should be received by a pediatrician-neonatologist. I started my professional career as a pediatric anesthesiologist, I had to work with babies and newborns. I had to act not only as an anesthesiologist, but also as a neonatologist. A boy was born, his mother immediately called him in intensive care Oganez. Boy 4 kg 250 grams, 49 cm, ”said Anatoly Akhapkin, an anesthesiologist at the special-purpose medical unit of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.

A pregnant woman came to the Mardakert regional hospital with complaints of abdominal pain. The hospital administration, knowing that there was no medical specialist in the hospital and in the city, decided to seek help from Russian military doctors, peacekeepers. The doctors of the Russian special-purpose medical unit, with vast experience and professional training, provided qualified assistance and saved a woman and a child.

“In the morning our woman in labor came with complaints of cramping pains in the abdomen. I turned to our Russian colleagues. They responded immediately and were quickly at the hospital. We did not have a neonatologist, but fortunately your doctors, there was also a pediatrician, he helped us and we performed a Caesarean section. Everything is safe for the child and for the mother. Thank you very much to our colleagues from the Russian peacekeeping forces. Thanks to their help, we did everything in a timely manner, ”said Lusine Iskandaryan, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Mardakert regional hospital.

During the medical appointment, the doctors of the special-purpose unit provided advisory and qualified medical assistance to 52 residents from remote settlements of the Mardakert region.

In turn, the officers of the humanitarian response center held an action to distribute food kits, basic necessities, warm clothes and children’s toys to large families, internally displaced persons and local residents in need.

In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 Moscow time on November 10, 2020, a complete ceasefire and all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh were announced.

A peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is deployed to control the ceasefire and military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. Russian peacekeepers ensure the safe return of refugees and the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.
