Every year, on the last Sunday of July, Russia celebrates the Day of the Navy. Today, July 25, 2021, in accordance with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, the fifth Main Naval Parade in the modern history of Russia will take place. Like wooden sailing ships, rowing boats and galleys of the Peter the Great era, modern steel boats, corvettes and frigates will pass along the historic embankments, palaces and squares. Diesel-electric and nuclear submarines will present their beauty and power. The parade units of naval aviation will fly over the sea capital of our country in the sky.

For 325 years, the Navy has served Russia, guarding the maritime borders of our Motherland, demonstrating loyalty to the oath and the St. Andrew’s flag.

The verdict of the Boyar Duma in 1696 submitted by Peter the Great to the decree “Sea ships – to be!” became a state act of founding the Russian Navy. This made it possible in an unprecedentedly short time, by 1700, to have in Russia the first 40 sailing and 113 rowing vessels capable of combat use.

The entire history of the Russian fleet is a chronicle of heroic deeds, a history of selfless fortitude and courage, high combat readiness and military skill of Russian sailors, major geographical discoveries, outstanding achievements of domestic science, technology, industry, the inspired work of scientists, designers, engineers and shipbuilders.

The beginning of these accomplishments is rightfully considered the first naval victory of the young Russian fleet over the Swedish at Cape Ga? Ngut. This victory was a moral breakthrough for the Russian fleet, its first baptism of fire, when it discovered the ability to resist the fleet of a powerful naval power. More than three hundred years have passed since then. And all these years sailors have been and remain the pride of the people, the color of the army and the nation.

A whole galaxy of talented naval commanders and military leaders was brought up in the navy, including admirals: Spiridov, Ushakov, Senyavin, Lazarev, Kornilov, Nakhimov, Kuznetsov, Gorshkov.

During the Great Patriotic War, the Navy took part in all defensive and offensive operations. The sailors destroyed more than 2,500 enemy ships and vessels, provided the transportation of 10 million people and more than 100 million tons of cargo.

From the post-war period to the present day, the fleet continues to carry out the tasks of a naval presence in the World Ocean, the development of the Arctic zone, and testing of new equipment and weapons. So, in December 2020, for the first time in the practice of training the submarine forces of the Pacific Fleet, the Project 955 nuclear-powered submarine successfully launched four Bulava ballistic missiles from the Sea of Okhotsk. All missile blocks conditionally hit the assigned training targets.

A significant event in the 2021 academic year was the conduct of a comprehensive Arctic expedition to the Franz Josef Land archipelago, during which tactical exercises of nuclear submarines, naval aviation and coastal troops were conducted. Within the framework of the exercises, for the first time, three submarines simultaneously surfaced in a limited area, and practical firing of combat torpedoes was carried out to form an artificial ice hole.

The modern Russian Navy is a balanced branch of the Armed Forces. It can operate in four environments simultaneously: under water, in the ocean, on land and in the air. It includes surface and submarine forces, naval aviation, marines and coastal troops.

New technologies of domestic shipbuilding, new physical principles on which modern models of weapons and military equipment are being developed, new approaches in tactics and strategy of the Navy, combined with high professionalism, dedication and devotion to the Motherland of our sailors, say one thing: Russia is reliably protected from sea and ocean directions.
