In Novocherkassk, the Council of Veterans of the Novocherkassk Higher Military Command School of Communications (NVVKUS) named after Marshal of the Soviet Union V.D. Sokolovsky, a meeting of alumni dedicated to the 35th anniversary of graduation from the school was organized.

More than 70 people took part in the event. The servicemen laid flowers at the monument “Memory” and in the assembly hall of the House of Culture of the former NVVKUS held a solemn meeting dedicated to the memory of the fallen. “They have changed outwardly, but they are still young in soul,” said retired colonel Vladimir Tyulpanov, chairman of the veterans council.

Novocherkassk Higher Military Command School of Communications. Marshal of the Soviet Union V.D. Sokolovsky began its history on December 7, 1937, when on the basis of the 41st territorial reserve communications regiment by the directive of the General Staff of the Red Army in Murom, Vladimir region, advanced training courses for the command staff of the communications troops were created.

On June 30, 1941, by the directive of the General Staff, the advanced training courses for the command staff of the communications troops were transformed into the Murom military communications school.

In January 1964, according to the directive of the General Staff, the Murom military communications school was redeployed to the city of Novocherkassk to the base of the former Suvorov military school and was renamed the Novocherkassk military communications school.

On November 1, 1998, the school was transformed into the Novocherkassk Military Telecommunications Institute (NVIS).

In 2004, NVIS was renamed into the Novocherkassk Higher Military Command School of Communications (military institute).

August 19, 2011 Novocherkassk Higher Military Command School of Communications named after Marshal of the Soviet Union V.D. Sokolovsky said goodbye to the Battle Banner, and from October 1, 2011 it ceased to exist. More than 50 graduates of the school received the rank of general.
