Today, at 12 training ranges of the Western Military District, as well as on the Oka River section, special exercises of engineering troops have started. They are being held under the guidance of Lieutenant-General Yuri Stavitsky, Chief of Engineering Troops of the RF Armed Forces, in preparation for the West-2021 Joint Strategic Exercise (SSU).

More than 8 thousand servicemen take part in them and about 1500 units of military equipment are involved.

The main purpose of the exercise is to test the readiness of the engineering troops with the testing of new ways of performing tasks as intended, as well as to continue the implementation of the experience gained in the Syrian Arab Republic into the training programs for engineering units.

In the course of performing tasks, military engineers will use robotic demining systems “Uran-6” and fire extinguishing “Uran-14”, as well as the latest remote mining systems, a universal minelayer UMP-K, water extraction and purification units. On the Oka River, pontoon units equip all types of crossings: landing with the use of PTS-2; ferry with the use of PMM-2M and bridge crossings from pontoon parks PP-2005.

The exercises are held at training grounds in the Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Voronezh and Moscow regions and will last until July 30.
