Press Service of the Moscow Metro

Overhaul took place on 16 escalators at nine stations. Smaller ongoing repairs were carried out at 39 stations – 57 escalators were repaired there.

More than 70 escalators have been repaired in the metro since the beginning of the year. The work took place at the stations Chistye Prudy, Ploshchad Revolyutsii, Komsomolskaya, Krasnogvardeyskaya, Belyaevo and others.

“The requirements for the maintenance of the Moscow metro infrastructure, in particular escalators, are among the most stringent in the world. This is the only way to guarantee the safety and comfort of passengers. There are over a thousand escalators in the metro, and each of them periodically needs timely maintenance. Every year we update at least a hundred cars, “said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, Head

Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov.

Overhaul is carried out every 10–12 years, current repairs are carried out every five to seven years. This guarantees the reliability, stable operation and safety of the equipment. The work is organized so as not to interfere with passengers: during repairs, they can use neighboring escalators or adjacent stations.

From January to June, overhaul took place on 16 escalators at nine stations: Komsomolskaya, Kitay-gorod, Planernaya, Tushinskaya, Revolution Square, Prospekt Mira, Skhodnenskaya, Paveletskaya and Pipe “. It includes the replacement of guides, steps, traction chains, electrical and mechanical equipment, as well as units, main drive shafts with an emergency brake – all these mechanisms ensure the safety of the smooth movement of the staircase.

Current repairs are less extensive and time-consuming. In the course of it, individual details of the steps, mechanisms and balustrades of the escalator are changed. Such work took place at 39 stations – 57 escalators were repaired there.

By the end of the year, specialists will repair about 80 more escalators.
