A few days ago, an agreement was signed on the transfer to the Kaliningrad Aviation and Sports Club DOSAAF of facilities at the Severny airfield (Nivenskoye settlement) intended for the revival of DOSAAF aviation activities in the Kaliningrad region.

ASK DOSAAF Russia transferred the building and part of the territory of the former military airfield “Severny” in the village of Severny Bagrationovsky urban district. The transferred facilities include an airstrip with a length of more than two kilometers and taxiways. It is here that aviation activities for the training of athletes-paratroopers, ultralight aviation pilots and airmen will be resumed.

The airfield is located 20 kilometers from Kaliningrad. Since 1952, the legendary 689th Guards Sandomierz Order of Alexander Nevsky Fighter Aviation Regiment (the former 16th Guards Regiment) was based here. In this regiment, Alexander Pokryshkin fought and even was the regiment commander in 1944. In 1989, the regiment was named after Air Marshal A.I. Pokryshkin, and in 2002 the regiment was relocated from the Nivenskoe airfield to the Chkalovsk airfield.

An exclusive exposition about the glorious history of the Pokryshkinsky regiment has been created in the museum and cultural center of the village of Vladimirovo, Kaliningrad Region.
