Irkut Research and Production Corporation PJSC (Irkut Corporation PJSC) is an integrated company that provides a full cycle of design, production, sale and after-sales service of military and civil aviation equipment. It is part of PJSC United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec State Corporation.

The corporation was founded in 2002 on the basis of OJSC Irkutsk Aviation Production Association.

The main products of PJSC Irkut Corporation are the Su-30SM and Su-30MK multipurpose fighters, the Yak-130 combat training aircraft, and the Yak-152 initial training aircraft. Also, as the head contractor, Irkut Corporation develops and manufactures short-range passenger aircraft of the MC-21 family, conducts tests of MC-21-300 / 310 airliners and develops their serial production.

Irkutsk Aviation Plant, a branch of PJSC Irkut Corporation, fulfills contracts for the supply of aviation equipment both for the state defense order and for foreign customers. The number of IAZ employees is about 12 thousand people.

A large-scale technical re-equipment program has been implemented at IAZ. As a result of the reconstruction, the plant has become one of the most modern and highly productive enterprises in the aircraft building industry in Russia. Modern technologies of machining, blanking and stamping production, coating and heat treatment have been introduced. The plant switched to digital technologies for the production of aircraft. Modern automated lines for the aggregate and final assembly of MC-21 aircraft have been deployed. The production is certified according to international standards. A logistics center, a hangar for airfield development and customization of airliners were put into operation.

The company conducts a planned training of personnel. The plant cooperates with the Irkutsk National Research Technical University for the training of engineering personnel, as well as in the research and development of new technologies.

MS-21-300 / 310 is a new generation medium-range aircraft with a capacity of 163 to 211 passengers. The liner is focused on the most demanded segment of the passenger transportation market. The aircraft is created on the basis of the latest developments in the field of aircraft construction. Advanced aerodynamics, engines and systems of the latest generation provide high flight performance and lower operating costs in comparison with analogues.

The MC-21 cooperation includes the leading manufacturers of aviation systems. The geography of Russian suppliers includes companies from Ulyanovsk (wing, tail unit, fuselage panels, composites), Voronezh (engine pylons, fairings), Kazan (wing mechanization), Nizhny Novgorod (chassis) and a number of other cities in Russia. Onboard equipment integrators and software developers are domestic companies.

One of the key design solutions of the MC-21 project is the widest fuselage width in its class – 4.06 m. For passengers, this provides a number of advantages, including expanding personal space and increasing freedom of movement. In the interests of passenger comfort, the windows have been enlarged. The pressure in the cabin corresponds to an altitude of 1830 m, versus 2400 m for existing narrow-body aircraft.

The use of rigid and lightweight composite materials made it possible to develop a high aspect ratio wing and improve the aerodynamics of the aircraft. The share of composites in the construction exceeds 30%. For the first time, a wing made of polymer composite materials is installed on aircraft of this class. The technology for the production of large-sized wing box products based on infusion technologies has been developed and patented in Russia. Since 2020, the AeroComposite-Ulyanovsk plant has been using domestic materials in the production of the wing of the MC-21-300 aircraft. The first wing made from them was installed on the MC-21-300 aircraft in July 2021.

The MC-21 program is at the stage of certification tests and aircraft production for the first customers.

Four MC-21-300 aircraft take part in flight certification tests in accordance with Russian and European standards. Two more aircraft are undergoing static and life tests at TsAGI. In December 2020, flight tests of the MC-21-310 prototype aircraft began, which is equipped with new Russian PD-14 engines.

Obtaining the Russian certificate MS-21-300 is scheduled for the end of 2021. Deliveries to the first airlines are scheduled to begin in 2022.
