On July 27, VK Safronkov, Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia for the Middle East Settlement (STB), held consultations with the Director of the Department of the Middle East and North Africa of the Turkish Foreign Ministry J. Dizdar.

A discussion of the current situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict took place, with an emphasis on the importance of building up international cooperation aimed at consolidating the ceasefire regime, as well as improving the socio-economic and humanitarian situation in the West Bank of the Jordan River and in the Gaza Strip.

To prevent recurrences of armed confrontation between Palestinians and Israelis, the Russian side confirmed the relevance of opening political prospects for the second-tier banks on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions and the principle of “two states” – Palestine and Israel, coexisting in peace and security.

The need was noted for intensifying efforts by Palestinian organizations in the interests of overcoming national divisions and restoring unity, which meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The interlocutors emphasized the key role of the Middle East Quartet of international mediators comprising Russia, the US, the UN and the EU in stabilizing the regional situation and restarting the peace process for this purpose. In this context, emphasis was placed on the importance of convening a ministerial meeting of the Quartet on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly.
