Today, during a special exercise, the engineering troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation ensured the transfer of the grouping on the section of the Oka River in the Vladimir region.

For the first time in world practice, pontoon units equipped a double-width pontoon bridge with a carrying capacity of 120 tons, which made it possible to double the carrying capacity of the crossing, ensured the movement of military and special equipment simultaneously in the same direction and the operation of the bridge in waves of up to 3 points.

Also, units of the engineering troops ensured the crossing of the starting battery of the Yars PGRK of the Teikovsky missile formation of the Strategic Missile Forces.

In addition, pontoon units equipped all types of crossings: landing with the use of PTS-2; ferries with the use of PMM-2M and bridge crossings from the pontoon parks PP-2005. Units of the military police ensured the safety of the bridge crossings for the first time operating on modern boats, motor boats and repelled the attack of the mock enemy’s deviation groups.

More than 1,600 servicemen took part in the drawing of the episode and about 600 units of military and special equipment were involved.

The maneuvers are conducted under the direction of the Chief of the Engineering Troops of the RF Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Yuri Stavitsky. More than 8 thousand servicemen take part in them and about 1500 units of military equipment are involved. The main purpose of the exercise is to test the readiness of the engineering troops with the testing of new ways of performing tasks as intended, as well as the implementation of the experience gained in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The exercises are being conducted in preparation for the West-2021 Joint Strategic Exercise (SSU) and will be held at training ranges in the Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Voronezh and Moscow regions and will last until July 30.
