In Sevastopol, the Public Council of the Maritime Library named after V.I. M.P. Lazarev, which included representatives of the Black Sea Fleet, the executive and legislative authorities of the city, veteran organizations, civil and military educational institutions, the Dean of the Sevastopol District, Archpriest Sergiy (Khalyuta).

The Public Council of the Maritime Library was headed by Ekaterina Altabaeva, a member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation from the executive body of the state power of the city of Sevastopol.

During the first meeting, the leadership of the council was selected, and a plan for preparing for the 200th anniversary of the library was discussed.

In the near future, it is planned to create a board of trustees of the library.

Sevastopol Maritime Library named after Admiral M.P. Lazareva is a unique repository of historical and modern books and documents, in its funds are stored more than 300,000 publications, including the rarest editions of the 17th-19th centuries.

The Maritime Library was founded in Sevastopol in 1822 on the initiative and at the expense of the officers of the Black Sea Fleet and became the first cultural and educational institution in the city. In 2022, the library will celebrate its 200th anniversary.
