The Sary-Shagan test site turns 65.

In October 1957, an anti-missile missile defense system was launched and the deployment of its assets began.

Less than five years after the start of the formation of the test site on March 4, 1961, for the first time in world practice, the V-1000 antimissile in the experimental system “A” hit the warhead of a strategic missile. This launch confirmed the theoretical calculations of the possibility of creating a missile defense system. Later, new missile defense systems were tested at the test site, among them such well-known systems as the A35 system and the A135 system.

The test site made a huge contribution to testing samples of combat equipment and means of overcoming the anti-missile defense of strategic missile systems.

In addition, a training center for the Air Defense Forces was deployed on the territory of the training ground, where military combat crews of anti-aircraft missile regiments and brigades were firing. Military exercises of various levels were also held here. At the same time, the tasks of target and jamming support of the exercises were assigned to the test site.

The developed infrastructure and experimental testing base have been preserved at the test site, which makes it possible to successfully solve current and future tasks of testing missile defense systems.

The Sary-Shagan test site has objects of an experimental and test base and is a test site where it is possible to fully test missile defense systems that correspond to the real situation.

Considering the importance of the tasks to be solved, serious work has been carried out at the test site today to modernize it and re-equip it with modern means.
