Separate Guards Salute Division named after Marshal of Artillery Vladimir Mikhalkin of the Western Military District (ZVO) made a 500 km march from Moscow and arrived in Nizhny Novgorod, where he will take part in a solemn event timed to coincide with the 800th anniversary of the city’s founding.

The ZVO unit will fire artillery fireworks from ZIS-3 cannons during the Great Patriotic War on the day of the opening of the monument to Alexander Nevsky on July 30 of this year.

“This is not the first time our division has taken part in festive events in Russian cities. In 2021, the salute division has already fired over 100 artillery volleys, ”said Colonel Vyacheslav Paradnikov, commander of the salute division of the Western Military District.

A separate guards salute division fires artillery salutes on Defender of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day, as well as on other days at the direction of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. The division also salutes at the inauguration of the elected President of the Russian Federation. The battalion is equipped with 76-mm ZiS-3 cannons of the 1942 model and fireworks of various calibers based on the KamAZ car, as well as a special launch complex for the production of fireworks in the form of a Tricolor.
