Greece on Red Square within the framework of the XIV International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” will be presented by the Military Band of the Main Command of Military Support of the Armed Forces of Greece “Theseus”. The festival will be held in Moscow from August 27 to September 5 in the “COVID free” format.

The orchestra has a rich history. The military music group was founded in 1824 in the former capital of the country, the city of Nafplion. In 1856, the orchestra was transferred to Athens and renamed the Military Band of the Athenian Garrison in honor of the new capital of Greece.

But since at that time the orchestra was the only state official military musical group, it began to be used in every cultural event that took place in Greece. In addition, the orchestra took part in the First and Second Balkan Wars, as well as in the First and Second World Wars. During its long history of existence, the collective had different names. Now it is known as the Military Band of the General Command of Military Support of the Armed Forces of Greece “Theseus”.

The duties of the orchestra include supporting the units of the Honor Guard of the President of the Hellenic Republic during state events, participating in various official ceremonies and cultural events in the country, as well as representing Greece abroad. The ensemble has already performed in Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, North Africa, Serbia, USA, France, Czech Republic and Malta.
