Lieutenant General Viktor Voronov, Deputy Commander of the Southern Military District (YuVO) for Logistics, checked the readiness of the servicemen for the joint Russian-Indian exercise of ground forces “Indra-2021”, which will be held from August 1 to 13 in the Volgograd region at the Prudboy training ground.

The Lieutenant General inspected the condition of the facilities of the training and material base at the interspecific training ground, assessed the conditions for the placement of national contingents in the tent camp.

The joint exercise will be attended by about 250 servicemen of motorized rifle, tank and artillery units, a reconnaissance company of a motorized rifle unit of the Southern Military District, stationed in the Volgograd region, as well as about 250 servicemen of the Armed Forces of India.

The events involve more than 100 units of weapons and military equipment, including armored combat tracked vehicles BMP-3, T-90A tanks, multiple launch rocket systems “Grad”, 300 different targets, of which over 100 mobile, imitating automobile and armored vehicles enemy.

The task of the exercise is to increase the readiness of command and control bodies, forces and means to combat terrorism. The servicemen will practice the search, detection and destruction of illegal armed formations, the search and destruction of conventional explosive devices, the conduct of radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance in buildings and on the ground.

International joint activities are carried out in accordance with the plan of international activities and are aimed at strengthening and developing military cooperation between countries.

The plan for the combat training of the Southern Military District in 2021 provides for the participation of the district’s military personnel in international exercises with units of the armed forces of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Armenia, Algeria, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Egypt.
