A large military sports festival took place on Saturday at the Alabino training ground near Moscow in honor of the 91st anniversary of the formation of the Airborne Forces (Airborne Forces), which will be celebrated on August 2.

After the opening of the holiday, which was attended by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, paratroopers of a separate reconnaissance battalion of the Ivanovo Guards Airborne Forces demonstrated demonstration performances in hand-to-hand combat with passing an obstacle course.

Then a dynamic demonstration of airborne equipment took place.

The Minister of Defense examined the new and advanced models of weapons, military and special equipment presented at the exhibition. Including – the landing armored vehicle “Typhoon-VDV”, which is planned for delivery to the formations and military units of the Airborne Forces. On the sites in front of the Mound of Glory, modern models of weapons, military and special equipment, landing equipment, and historical equipment were also demonstrated.

During the dynamic demonstration, according to the Ministry of Defense, new and promising samples of airborne artillery equipment were presented for the first time: a set of automated controls on the base chassis “Typhoon-Airborne” “Zavet-D”, 120-mm self-propelled artillery gun 2С42 “Lotos”, self-propelled -artillery installation 2S41 “Gorse” based on the wheeled armored car “Typhoon-VDV.

Also, for the first time, the general public was shown the delivery of 82-mm mortar weapons on the Junker-OT system in a universal parachute-cargo harness, as well as the delivery of a specialist who does not have parachute training on the Tandem-400 parachute system, as well as for the first time in world history the largest flag of the Airborne Forces with an area of ​​more than 1000 square meters was landed.

The dynamic demonstration of equipment was opened by the flight in close combat formation of a group of five unmanned aerial vehicles “Eleron-3” and “Orlan-10”, as well as the UAVs “Swallow” and “Orlan-10” undergoing trial operation. The spectators were shown a flight of the Superkam helicopter type aircraft with the flags of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Airborne Forces.

Vehicles of reconnaissance and special forces of the Airborne Forces passed the stands: the AM-1 all-terrain vehicle, the Lynx and Tiger-M vehicles, the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier, and the Typhoon-VDV armored vehicle.

Then came the equipment of the main airborne assault units – the first, second, third and fourth generation airborne combat vehicles, the BTR-MDM “Rakushka”.

The convoy of artillery units of the Airborne Forces contained a reconnaissance and fire control point “Reostat”, a 120-mm self-propelled artillery unit 2S9-1M “Nona-SM”, ATGM “Kornet”, a 120-mm towed howitzer D-30, a 120-mm portable mortar 2S12A “Sleigh”, 125-mm anti-tank gun 2S25 “Sprut-SD”.

The air defense combat equipment of the Airborne Forces was represented by the MRU-D reconnaissance and control module, the MP-D 9S931 landing module based on the Rakushka BTR-MDM, the Strela-10MN air defense system and the Verba MANPADS.

In addition, a demonstration of special equipment of engineering troops, RChBZ troops, communications, technical and logistic support took place.

One of the most spectacular episodes was the waltz waltz on the BMD-4M and the AM-1 army ATVs, as well as the demonstration performances on the horses of the pack-transport platoon of the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School named after General of the Army Vasily Margelov.

After that, a demonstration of the combat capabilities of the Airborne Forces units took place, within which a high-altitude landing from a height of 1,500 meters took place, the actions of reconnaissance groups in the raid, the crossing of a water barrier on equipment, the landing of tactical airborne assault forces and the conduct of an offensive battle by an airborne company were shown.

In the future, demonstration performances of parachutists with the performance of complex figures in the air, as well as a company of the guard of honor of the Ryazan Airborne Force School, were demonstrated. The spectators saw a rally of a tactical episode with the withdrawal of an advanced special forces unit of the Airborne Forces on parachute systems “Arbalet-2”, an attack by army aviation, the landing of the main forces of tactical airborne assault from Mi-8 helicopters and the actions of a paratrooper company on a BMD-4M in defense.

The holiday ended with a performance by the aerobatic team “Berkuts” of the Torzhok Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Army Aviation Flight Personnel.

All activities were carried out in accordance with the requirements for the prevention of a new coronavirus infection with strict adherence to a set of measures to counter the COVID-19 threat.

The holiday was attended by the commander of the Airborne Forces Andrei Serdyukov, heads of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, where formations, military units and institutions of the Airborne Forces are deployed, representatives of DOSAAF, the Union of Russian Paratroopers, other veteran and public organizations, military patriotic clubs and the All-Russian Children and Youth Military Patriotic Social Movement “Youth Army”.

The festive events began with a concert of creative teams of formations and military units of the Airborne Forces and the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Airborne Forces.

The military sports festival was opened by the combined brass military band of the Airborne Forces, the song and dance ensemble of the Airborne Forces and the landing of 12 parachutists, symbolizing the first parachute landing as part of the unit at the exercises near Voronezh on August 2, 1930, from where the Airborne Forces originate.
