Aviation of the Ministry of Defense of Russia performed 8 discharges of water per day to extinguish large wildfires in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The crews of the Il-76 aircraft of the military transport aviation dropped 336 tons of water on the centers of forest fires. Army aviation crews on Mi-8 helicopters dumped 41 tons of water, and also provided the transportation of 28 fire service specialists and more than 800 kg of cargo.
In total, during the execution of the task of extinguishing fires on the territory of Yakutia, the aviation of the Ministry of Defense of Russia performed 389 discharges of about 5.9 thousand tons of water, and also transported more than 527 fire service specialists and more than 58 tons of cargo.
On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, gave instructions on the creation of an aviation group of the Ministry of Defense of Russia to assist in the fight against forest fires in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The air group includes Mi-8 helicopters of the army aviation and Il-76 aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
