The Peresvet laser complex was developed by the efforts of scientists from Sarov (Nizhny Novgorod region), who worked under the constant attention of the Russian Ministry of Defense, said the head of the military department, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.
This was discussed at a meeting of the Minister of Defense with the scientific community in Novosibirsk, during which the scientific director of the Institute of Laser Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Sergei Bagaev, complained that at present he is forced to visit Moscow practically every week to try to solve a number of promising issues on the work of the institute.
Earlier, according to him, specialists from various federal departments and ministries often visited Novosibirsk. This is used by scientific organizations from Moscow. The academician proposed to improve interaction with scientific organizations.
“Are you coming to Moscow with us? To the Ministry of Defense? .. I hate bureaucracy and am fighting this case. We are doing everything to reduce the “distance” for science. We spend days of innovations, starting with those who do something in the garage with a file and ending with big science, ”said Sergei Shoigu.
The head of the military department invited the scientist to an exhibition of equipment and weapons in the Patriot Park, where, according to him, science and the latest developments are presented “in the broadest sense.”
“Trust me, I spend a lot of time talking to everyone and watching everyone. There are several big conferences where artificial intelligence will be discussed and so on. I visit your colleagues in Sarov. Thanks to their efforts and our constant attention, we have delivered such a wonderful weapon as “Peresvet”. And today we already have it in service. I, in any case, and those who are engaged in science in the department, are very attentive to this, ”the Minister of Defense assured.
Sergei Shoigu also said that the military department allocates a lot of money for science, so one cannot say that the money is mainly spent on Moscow organizations.
“We spend a lot on science. We spend hundreds of billions on research and development. And, of course, we want these funds to be invested extremely effectively … You have 17 billion worth of research and development work going on here. Here at you. Tomorrow I will be in Krasnoyarsk, where our research and development work, in my opinion, ends at 92 billion, so to say that everything is stuck in Moscow is clearly too much, ”the Minister of Defense said.
At the same time, the head of the military department agreed that “in general” interaction with scientific institutions should be strengthened.
