Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu awarded the next military ranks ahead of schedule and presented departmental awards to 40 athletes who represented CSKA at the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“The triumphant performance of the army team is a natural result of many years of hard work and self-denial. This is a great merit of the mentors, coaches and doctors – everyone who led the team to a brilliant result, ”Shoigu said while presenting the awards.

Shoigu thanked the athletes for their conscientious service to the cause, for their significant contribution to strengthening the prestige of the Russian Army and the country as a whole.

Awards for the Olympians:

Captain Sofya Velikaya (winner of the team saber fencer tournament, silver medalist of the individual tournament), senior lieutenant Timur Safin (silver medalist of the foil fencer team tournament), lieutenant Musa Yevloyev (winner of the tournament in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 97 kg) , Lieutenant Adelina Zagidullina (winner of the foil team tournament), Lieutenant Yulia Karimova (winner of two bronze medals in the team and individual shooting tournament), Lieutenant Yulia Zykova (silver medalist in the individual shooting), Lieutenant Sergei Emelin (bronze medalist of the tournament – Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 60 kg), Sergeant Olga Nikitina (winner of the team saber fencer tournament).

The medal “For Contribution to the Development of International Military Cooperation” was awarded to captain Inna Deriglazova (winner of the foil fencer team tournament, silver medalist of the individual tournament) and Elena Vesnina (silver medalist in the mixed tennis tournament).

The medals “For Strengthening the Combat Commonwealth” were awarded to Angelina Melnikova (winners of the team all-around in artistic gymnastics, bronze medalist in individual all-around and in free exercise), Anna Prakaten (silver medalist alone in rowing), Vasilisa Stepanova (silver medalist without helmsman, rowing), Ensign Alexander Bondar (bronze medalist in synchronized diving from a platform), Anastasia Galashina (silver medalist in 10m air rifle shooting), Artem Chernousov (silver medalist in 10m air pistol shooting in mixed doubles), Svetlana Gomboeva (silver medalist in archery in the team championship), Mikhail Artamonov (bronze medalist in taekwondo in the weight category up to 58 kg), Tatyana Minina (silver medalist in taekwondo in the weight category up to 57 kg), Anton and Kirill Borodachev (silver medalists in the team championship of foil fencers), Andrey Zamkova (bronze medalist of the boxing tournament in the weight up to 69 kg), Sergey Semenov (bronze medalist of the Greco-Roman wrestling tournament in the weight category up to 130 kg), Angelina Shkatova (silver medalist in the group all-around in rhythmic gymnastics).

The rest of the military athletes were awarded with departmental medals.

Awarding the athletes, the minister noted that 22 representatives of the Army Club – the winners of the summer World War Games, which were held in October 2019 in Wuhan, China – were included in the national team of the Russian Olympic Committee in Japan. The total number of army men was more than 33% of all athletes of the Russian Olympic team in sports cultivated in the army club. At the 2020 Olympics, Russian athletes won 71 awards. Most of the medals were brought by the athletes of the Central Sports Club of the Army – 45. Of these, 11 are gold, 19 are silver and 15 are bronze.
