Today, on August 20, 2021, in Ulyanovsk, on the parade ground of the renowned separate guards airborne assault formation, the deputy chief of staff of the Airborne Forces, Major General Alexei Naumets, presented to the command and personnel of the new commander of the 31st separate guards order of Kutuzov, II degree of airborne assault -storm brigade.

During the solemn ritual, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Airborne Forces received the St. George’s banner of formation from the hands of the Hero of the Russian Federation, Guards Colonel Vladimir Seliverstov, who had commanded the brigade since August 2020, and handed it over to the new commander, the Guard, Colonel Sergei Karasev.

At a solemn meeting dedicated to the presentation of the banner to the new commander, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Airborne Forces, Major General Alexei Naumets, said in his speech that by order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, a worthy, competent, military officer – Guards Colonel Karasev was appointed to the post of commander of the formation. Later, in his speech, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Airborne Forces recalled the glorious combat path of the Ulyanovsk Guards from the moment of formation to the present day.

“Being a reliable bulwark in the defense of the central borders of our homeland, the brigade’s personnel make a significant contribution to strengthening the country’s defense capability, showing the best qualities of the winged infantry guards, demonstrating in practice combat training and an example of fulfilling military duty.”

“This year, in accordance with the training plan, the brigade will have to perform a number of difficult and responsible tasks during exercises of various levels. All this will require coordination of actions from the entire team and the professionalism of everyone in the ranks. The command of the Airborne Forces is convinced that you will cope with all the assigned tasks with dignity and prove in practice that you are the best collective of the Airborne Forces! ” – noted Major General Alexey Naumets.

In conclusion, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Airborne Forces thanked the Hero of the Russian Federation of the Guards Colonel Vladimir Seliverstov for the fruitful work in maintaining the combat capability of the formation, the development and strengthening of the glorious landing traditions and congratulated on the appointment to a higher military position, and also expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Guards Colonel Sergei Karasev, the formation will achieve high results, and the combat experience of the veterans of the brigade, their help and mentorship will help to continue the glorious chronicle of the 31st Separate Guards Order of Kutuzov of the II degree of the Airborne Assault Brigade.

The event ended with a solemn march of the unit’s units led by the new commander of the guard, Colonel Sergei Karasev.

Guard Colonel Sergei Pavlovich Karasev graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School in 2004.

After graduation, he served in command positions from platoon commander of a reconnaissance company to deputy commander of the Ivanovo Guards airborne formation. In 2013, he graduated from the Military Educational and Scientific Center of the Ground Forces “Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” with a degree in Command and Control of Troops, Units and Formations.

He took part in a number of military operations. Has combat experience. For military merit he was awarded state orders and medals.
