Since 2010, more than 28 thousand cats and dogs have been taken from shelters.

August 21 is the International Day of Homeless Animals. In honor of this, the capital Department of housing and communal servicestalked about the work of city shelters.

“Every year more and more animals from shelters find their owners. This year alone, 1706 dogs and 387 cats have already found a new home. This is almost 30 percent more than in the same period last year. The staff of the shelters do a great job – they treat, feed and take care of their wards, becoming true friends for them. Of no less importance is the activity of volunteers who help dogs and cats to socialize and find their loving owners, “said the head of the department.

Vyacheslav Torsunov.

According to him, the Department is doing a great job so that as many people as possible learn about animals that need a family. For example, at the beginning of the year, on Tsvetnoy Boulevard, a photo exhibition “I want to go home!” Was organized, dedicated to dogs and cats from city shelters.

Today there are 13 shelters in the city. When the animal gets there, it is placed in a special isolation ward for a 30-day quarantine. For a month, a newcomer is examined by a veterinarian who treats fleas and parasites and vaccinates against rabies.

Thanks to the created system, there are fewer and fewer stray dogs and cats on the streets. Since 2010, more than 28 thousand animals have found a new home. Today there are about 17 thousand of them in shelters. Many of them are ready to go home. They are friendly towards people, socialized, healthy and vaccinated.
