The closing ceremony of the joint Russian-Lao military exercise Laros-2021 was held at the Sergeevsky training ground in the Primorsky Territory.

During the ceremony, a rally was held, at which the Deputy Commander of the Eastern Military District (VVO), Lieutenant General Sergei Sevryukov, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the People’s Army of Laos, Major General Saytyai Kommasit, and Commander of the Combined Arms Army of the VVO, Major General Aleksey Podivilov, spoke. They recognized the conducted exercise as successful and noted the increased training of the units.

Saytyay Kommasit thanked the Russian side for the warm welcome and expressed his deep gratitude to the command of the district, the association and the department of international military cooperation of the Air Defense Forces. He added that the participants in the exercise from the Lao People’s Army have gained a lot of experience and will become instructors in their homeland to train other military personnel.

After the rally, the distinguished servicemen were awarded with departmental medals “For Strengthening the Combat Commonwealth”. The Lao side awarded the distinguished servicemen with the “Friendship” medals. The flags of the exercise were lowered to the anthems of the two countries, and the units participating in the exercise marched in solemn.

At the end of the event, the leaders of the exercises unveiled a commemorative plaque with a mention of the Russian-Lao military exercise Laros-2021.

The joint Russian-Laotian exercise “Laros-2021” was held for the first time on the territory of Russia. The first joint exercise was held in 2019 in Laos.

The Russian side was represented by tank subunits of the combined arms army of the Air Defense Forces stationed in the Primorsky Territory. The servicemen have worked out joint actions in the fight against illegal armed groups. In total, about 500 military personnel take part in the exercise, about 100 units of military equipment are involved, including Su-25 attack aircraft, Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft and Ka-52 VVO attack helicopters.

Based on the results of the exercise, Colonel Ivan Taraev, head of the department for international military cooperation of the Air Defense Forces, reported on the increased degree of interaction in organizing the preparation and conduct of the Russian-Lao exercise between the two countries.
